Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy of the Rat Liver: Cytological, Cytochemical and Biochemical Methods
Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy of the Rat Liver: Cytological, Cytochemical and Biochemical Methods presents the proceedings of a workshop on technique and application of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in experimental Toxicology held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and University of Zurich on May 22-23, 1979. The book discusses the technique and application of FNAB in the clinic and of the rat liver; the morphological responses of the liver to toxic injury; and the assays of mixed function oxidase activity of small samples of liver. The text also describes the fluorometric determination of UDP-glucuronyltransferase activity; the Aldrin epoxidation; and the use of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity in FNAB samples. The radiometric assay for epoxide hydratase in small liver samples is also encompassed. Toxicologists will find the book useful.
For over 40 years Scheuer’s Liver Biopsy Interpretation has been an invaluable resource for the pathologist in practice and in training in helping to solve diagnostic problems at the microscope. Lavishly illustrated in full color throughout it covers all aspects of liver pathology from the normal, the hepatidities, childhood disease and neoplasms. Copious technical tips and diagnostic 'pearls' reflect the extensive experience and insight of the late Peter Scheuer and Jay Lefkowitch.. Throughout the text histopathologic features are correlated with clinical features to provide a practical account of how pathology impacts the diagnosis and management of liver disease.Well written, complete and concise quick reference.Helps the practicing and trainee pathologist solve diagnostic problems at the microscope.High quality color images complement the text throughout.Provides the user with a complete visual guide to each entity and assists in the recognition and diagnosis of any tissue sample under the microscope.Practical tips and “hands on advice from two of the world’s leading experts in liver pathology. Provides the trainee and general surgical pathologist with time saving diagnostic clues when dealing with difficult specimens.Glossary of frequently used terms and descriptions...
Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy of the Liver, A Color Atlas
This atlas of fine needle aspirate preparations from benign and maligant liver lesions, both primary and metastatic processes, is a comprehensive guide to the indications for, and techniques and interpretations of, needle aspirations of the liver.Opening sections discuss pre-procedure evaluations as well as actual needle biopsy techniques, with the remainder of text devoted to 200 colour micrographs that provide illustrations of lesions that may currently be found by cytopathologists.
A biopsy is a medical procedure, performed by an interventional radiologist or cardiologist, or a surgeon, involving the extraction of tissue or cell samples for determining the presence or extent of a disease. The tissue is then examined by a pathologist and analyzed chemically. A biopsy is performed on a liver in patients with hepatitis, for determining response to therapy. In this, it is assessed if the inflammation of the liver has been reduced and the progression of the disease based on the degree of fibrosis is determined. A liver biopsy may also be performed in the case of Wilson’s disease to determine the quantitative copper level in the body. This book is compiled in such a manner, that it will provide a clinical perspective of biopsy. It covers in detail some existing techniques and innovative practices concerning liver biopsy. As this field is emerging at a rapid pace, the elaborate content of this book will help the readers understand the modern concepts of this subject.
